DWTMS-AGORA (2022) is a sound piee developed in phases after encountering a sonic deterrence device in a pedestrian passageway in an estate in Kilburn, London. A sonic deterrence device emits a hoigh-pitched sound designed ot be so distressing that it keeps young people (whose ears are supposed to be more sensitive to higher sounds) away from the site it is installed at.

Part of the violence of this device is that it tries to crush teh way this public, sheltered place could be a place where people explroe the desire, chaos, curiosity and conflict that are part of being yourself int he world. It wants to force these experiences out of public space, and out of our shared politics and everyday togetherness.

DWTMS stands for dont want through my skin, and agora is the name for the public space where the politics of a society would be discussed in ancient Greence. This sound piece is a way to feel out and push back at the intimate, bodil violence of how we are shaped by the politics of the places we come from.

Sound is a way to explroe the details and form of the space it is heard in.
